Environment

  • Orzeł Biały S.A. is a socially responsible company – it cares for the environment and supports local communities

  • The recycling of used batteries and other lead-bearing waste is carried out within a close-loop production cycle.

  • The Company strives to develop technologies which enable a full lead recovery from lead-bearing waste.

In 2011 through 2014, Orzeł Biały had been running an investment program - the largest in its history - where, using national and EU funds, a cutting-edge Research and Development Facility was set up dealing with the modelling and optimisation of technological non-ferrous alloys processes. Research, analytical testing, quality control of production processes, initiating and implementing of innovative and pro-growth solutions are the main tasks of the Research and Development Facility so established.

The Company's R&D activities directly affect:
• increasing the efficiency of the lead smelting process for lead recovered from scrap batteries;
• increasing material recycling rates;
• the level of plant and environs safety;
• optimization of the secondary lead processing costs;
• increase in environmental awareness in relation to the Company’s implemented pro-ecological solutions.

2011 - 2014 The largest investment program in the history of Orzeł Biały where using national and EU funds, a cutting-edge Research and Development Facility was set up dealing with the modelling and optimisation of technological non-ferrous alloys processes. Research, analytical testing, quality control of production processes, initiating and implementing of innovative and pro-growth solutions are the main tasks of the Research and Development Facility so established.

2012 - 2013 The lead smelter slag processing project. The equity-financed project. This project implementation allows for measurable ecological effects by reducing hazardous waste volumes.

2009 - 2012 Implementation, together with the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals, of a research project co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education  as part of the specific targeted project schedule of the Development of the Technology and Start-Up of New Alloys for Batteries and Cable Sheaths Project.

2009 - 2010 Implementation of research, together with the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals, into lead smelting slag processing  technology

2008 - 2011 Implementation of research related to the development of a new lead paste desulphurisation technology from scrap battery treatment using the amine solution in the framework of the specific project  of  New Integrated Technology of Scrap Lead-Acid Battery Processing Using Battery Paste Aqueous Amine Desulphurisation. In addition, works were carried out in order to optimise  the investment costs and process line operations in conjunction in the technological process, in order to improve the efficiency of the integrated scrap lead-acid battery amine solution treatment technology.

2008 - 2010 The research project, co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, as part of the specific targeted project schedule of Environmentally Safe, Selective Resmelt of Lead-Bearing Products from the Mechanical Separation of Battery Scrap for Improving the Lead Manufacturing Efficiency Project.

2007 - 2008 Building a test station for the lead paste desulphurization process from crap battery treatment using an amine solution.
